Mr. Ebikabowei Anthony, an outstanding Artiste and Writer who recently clocked 50 years old last year October. Ebika’s eclecticism in various genres of the arts endears him to fellow artistes, art lovers and patrons. Ebika Anthony is a poet, playwright, puppeteer, dramatist and social worker.

He was the Chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Also former National (P.R.O. South) of the Association of Nigerian Authors. Ebika Anthony is presently, the President of Centre for Poets and the P.R.O. of the African Heritage Research Library and Cultural Centre.

The Celebrant is so worth celebrating as he has also organized same for Prof. Femi Osofisan, Prof. Niyi Osundare, Dr. Wale Okediran, Prof. Francis Egbokhare, Late Ify Omalicha Agwu, Dr. Bayo Adebowale, Late Wale Ogunyemi to mention but few.

Baba Ebiks as fondly called by literary friends and enthusiasts has groomed several upcoming writers who have won many international and local prizes. Some of his major theatrical achievements include dramatic direction of Kunle Okesipe’s Sagoe Drink Lobes which was the celebration play to mark Wole Soyinka’s twenty years of the Nobel Prize for Literature at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He is also the organizer of Ibadan Poetry Festival and Ibadan Short Story Retreat. Ebika has published many teen authors both in primary and secondary schools in Oyo State.

Some of Ebika’s works include, Songs of Bitterness, Cowries of Love, Poetry Drum, Early Bird Flight, Writers in Oyo ANA to mention but few. Ebika’s mentor Jare Ajayi, a former Arts Editor in the Nigerian Tribune once described Ebika as an all-round artiste to interact with, any time, any day.

The competition is to recognize Ebika’s contribution to the upliftment of Literary Arts in South West as a region and in Nigeria as a country.
