Excerpt:
It was a sunny day in Colville and four teenage friends were eating at their favorite fast food point.
“Nothing good happens here” complained Anya, a girl with long black hair and brown eyes, playing with her chips.
“What’s your definition of good?” questioned a tall boy in glasses. “Get a life Eric’’ said Carl, passing his hand through his brown curly hair “don’t be serious all the time”
“Anya can I have your burger?” asked Susan, and without waiting for an answer she took Anya’s half eaten burger. Susan loved to eat and never got fat, though she didn’t even exercise.
“Why don’t you get fat?” asked Anya looking at Susan gobble up the carbs.
“Because I’m a mutant” she answered, brushing her blonde hair out of the way.
“I’m getting bored” said Carl “Let’s go for a walk”
“Nah! Can’t do that” Eric replied “I’ve got work in the garden” The three of them watched Eric walk out of the restaurant and then Anya spoke “We have been together for nine months and still he doesn’t feel easy around us”
“He’s complicated” said Susan “with parents moving from country to country”
Eric lived alone in his house, and his parents were abroad. The three friends felt that Eric was lonely all by himself in the house at the age of sixteen. They never asked him about his parents and he never mentioned them himself either.
They talked about Eric as they walked towards the town’s forest; it had its own stories about witches and magical creatures.
“What is he doing there?” questioned Anya, pointing at a known figure.
“Eric you told us that you had work in your garden’’ said Carl walking towards him.
“So I did” said Eric, he was sitting on a rock just a little into the forest, looking at the trees.
“You could have told us” said Susan “We’re your friends you know”
“And so you are” said Eric, still looking at the trees with a strange expression.
Susan gave Anya a look that clearly said ‘He-is-impossible’
“As we are already here” said Carl “why don’t we explore?”
“I have to clean my room” said Eric getting on his feet.
“Lame excuse my boy” smiled Carl putting an arm around him. “Comeon, it’ll be fun” Anya urged
“Ok, fine I’ll come” replied Eric.
They went into the forest, and even though they had explored it many a times they still liked going in it.
They walked on, with Carl in the lead, and reached the caves. Even the caves were rumored to be magical. There were many stories about monsters and gold that was in the caves.
“Want to go inside?” Carl asked smiling.
“We need a torch, a flashlight” said Susan “Anyone?”
“I have one” Eric replied taking out a flashlight from inside his pant’s pocket.
“Then let’s go” said Carl.
They walked into the cave, the walls looked strong and the roof was high, they walked a little into the cave, “Stay close” said Eric and switched on the flashlight.
“We shouldn’t be going far” warned Susan, Anya was holding her hand.
“Getting scared?” she whispered to Anya with a smile.
“Yeah sure” she replied, letting go of her hand and rolling her eyes.
“What’s that shine?” asked Carl.
