With great pleasure, in tribute to those who served and continue to serve, I present: CORRECTION OFFICER! - The Other Side Of The Wall.
This work offers a fascinating account of my twenty-year career at the medium security Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Norfolk, in a prison system that is, for the most part, out of sight and out of mind. Though corrections department operations, technology, and policies have progressed over the past forty years, they still rely on the time-honored professionalism of Correction Officers for their efficiency.
Amid daily routines and periods of inactivity, my experience ran the gamut from violence and injuries; work stoppages by both Correction Officers and inmates; adversarial administrations; an employee union “civil war;” interpersonal hostility; and institutional disturbances; to fine camaraderie; dedication to duty; and brotherhood.
Every event; every item of interest; every opinion, point of view and analysis in this book is written from memory. My short-term recollection suffers the natural effects of the aging process, but fortunately I have been blessed with a very accurate long-term remembrance. My Correction Officer career began more than four decades ago and ended after twenty years, but a great many details still easily come to mind.
