1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Ever had one of “those” people at your office or in your life some other way? You know the one I mean, the one who no matter how hard you try & explain something, they just don’t get it…….
When I was working outside of the ministry, I was a manager of many different business the ran the spectrum from pizza shops to real estate brokerage’s, and I hired a lot of people over those years. Of all those people I hired, I can pretty much break down those who didn’t get it into 2 different types. Those who don’t get it because they lack the proper training or experience, and those who refuse to try and get it.
The ones who lack the training or experience can usually be trained & mentored so that in time, they understand and are able to do the tasks that were set to them. In fact, some of the best people I ever hired were people who had no experience, but were willing to learn and be mentored. In time they became productive employees.
The second type of people are the ones who come to you claiming that they can do whatever task you ask them to, but in reality, they have no interest in learning, and even when you show them how to do something, they insisted on doing it their way.
This second group of people are the ones that this verse is talking about. The are “natural” people. They will not receive the word of God, and they see the word of God as foolishness. The verse goes on to say that these type of people can not know the things of God, because they insist on living in the natural (carnal) world, and the things of God can only be understood through the Holy Spirit. By not getting rid of these spiritual blinders, they can never know the fullness of the Spirit Of God.
My challenge to you today, as this season of Advent continues, as we continue to wait for the arrival of Jesus, is to take a few moments and examine your life. Spend time in prayer, seeking the Lord, and find out where those spiritual blinders are in your life and with His help, get rid of them so that you can know the true Spirit Of God, and be able to live fully victorious in Him.
