This is a collection of poems written over a lifetime. It expresses my love of family, faith in God and humor at life itself.
Her Face
Her soft green eyes though older now
Still twinkle in the evening sun
They sing the secret of her heart
“I’m still her love, her only one.”
Her crimson hair so thick and wild
Once full of body and great length
Now gets its luster from a bottle
And is cut a shorter length
Her tiny little button nose
Accentuates her oval face
Still perfect just the way it was
Projecting elegance and grace
Her rosy cheeks of yesteryear
Now weathered over time
Still have a glow so pure and deep
That words can’t put to rhyme.
Her painted lips still look their best
They turn up with a grin
They speak of truth and family love
Yet hold secrets well, within
Her dimpled chin is still so cute
And beautiful to me
It matters not that years of life
Have left it no longer wrinkle free
I know each inch, each furrowed line
This face I love so deep
It is the face of my eternal love
And one I plan to keep
As time moves on and we grow old
I’ll love her face even more each day
Than I did the day before.
Ours is a strong Love
We’re in the evening of our life here upon the earth.
Far past mid-day, yet still looking forward to the setting sun.
I want you to know though life sometimes gets in the way,
I love you more than ever before.
The events that cause the dust to rise
Are so insignificant when placed in an eternal perspective,
Yet they seem to cause the most damage between us
with harsh words, or no words at all.
I can’t explain why it happens, it just does.
With the remaining years we have together
Before we journey into eternity, I want you to know
That my desire has never been for another.
You are always in my thoughts and on my mind.
Our love is strong and will withstand any storm,
But I promise to steer clear of any ill wind
Before it rises in our path.
You are my bride, my wife, my love, and my life.
I would be nothing without you by my side.
My heart pains to know you hurt,
And dies a little to know that at times I am the cause.
Forgive me my faults and know that I am yours alone,
Completely and forever as long as eternity
Has one more tomorrow.
And I can draw yet one more breath to say
I love you.
