The author uses poetry to describe his work in bathing dogs at an animal shelter. Stories of good and bad, the trials and tribulations of large dogs!
Jo Jo Gets a Bath
Jo Jo would never put up a fight
And he never would try to bite
While in the tub of suds
His place of worship
His place of being male
His place of singing
Often he would read
The newspaper on the toilet
Imitating his past owner
But laughing at everyone
He knew they would look
So in the bath
He would cook
Raising everyone’s temperature
Paddling and swimming
In the groomer’s water
But a shiny coat he displays
Gold saddle spots
And ready for Saturday
Showing off his meaty physique
Nobody get in his way!
He needs a home
He is an adoption dog
Waiting for someone
Waiting for anyone
To love and cradle
Innocent dog bones
Dogs of Summer
Big meaty dogs outside
People afraid of big dogs
Some love big dogs
The dogs of summer
They tell the children to beware
Because American Bulldogs
Are as big as bears
Large alligator jaws
Thick necks
The dogs of summer
They are raised on a farm
Not too far from the city
Where the old people
Go to retire
Hidden away
Far away
The dogs of summer
The dogs are humorous hams
Can tell a lot about a man
By the way he dresses
If he wears a cap
Or if a woman is a woman
The dogs of summer
They want to play
Want to stray
But they are for sale
And they will set sail
For anyone that enjoys Bulldogs
The dogs of summer
