Pit Bull Hamburger Cart is a free chapbook about dogs that started a hamburger cart business; and poems about other dogs that like treats, especially ice cream. The author has volunteered with shelter dogs & Pit Bulls for over six years.
Hamburger Cart
Neighborhood dogs
Like children
Hysterical, comical and useful
Wearing checkerboard aprons
And paper hats
Standing near the curb
And of course
The most muscular dogs were summoned
Pit Bulls, Mastiffs and Bulldogs
Loading up their cart with meat, cheese and buns
Enough for a holiday
Like the Fourth of July
Dogs with goofy grins
Dogs with beards on chins
Handing out hamburgers to customers
Salivating on onions
Navigating on buns
Dogs with a purpose
A party, a day, something to remember!
Rufus the Rottweiler giggled
Sipping on a frosty root beer
His throat and abdomen wiggled
A Saturday filled with cheer
Dog eyes, shiny eye buttons
Dogs on hind legs
Tails wagging to hamburger juices
Hot dogs and brats
With customers amused!
Labrador Cone
Lulu the Labrador
Kissing a vanilla ice cream cone
The intense emotion
In licking and caressing
A tasty treat
Just for a dog
On a hot summer’s day
Paws held up in victory
As if the world just stopped
Like New Year’s Day
When the ball drops
So focused
Now Lulu won a great battle
Crunching the remainder cone
But it was cold as ice
And Lulu
Has gained new canine friends
Those jealous of her master’s treats
Competing for a dog biscuit can be difficult
But even mind boggling
In search of meat
Chicken, beef or turkey
But the cone will do for now
The highlight of the day
Guarding her investment
Like a queen on a throne
Made of sugar and ice
