This islam book is about the fairy tale of a general and a war love.
The Ney (flute) that is mentioned is Rûmî's stories in fact represents the perfect man (Insan-i Kâmil). The stages a reed goes through from the reed bed to becoming a ney portrays the maturation of a human being, a representation of the steps of purifying the nafs (lower self) and refining the heart.
In the same way that the ney is severed from the reed bed and this separation causes it to lament in pain, the perfect man, who has come from the realm of souls and enters a body made out of clay, known as the cage made of flesh, yearns for the original realm. Through this yearning a human being goes through ascetic discipline (riyâda), meditation (murâqaba), reflection (tafakkur), Divine love and tribulations until he reaches maturity and finds perfection.
We are living in a time of materialism, in this age people are after their fleshly desires more than ever. Unfortunately, everything is valued according to its material benefit; hence there is a great need to look at the events from the windows of the heart with the eyes of wisdom. In order to do this, we have to carefully reread the works of such Sufis like Bahauddin Naqshbend, Jalaladdin Rumi, and Abdulqadir Geylani and so on.
In the past we had authored a work named “From the Garden of the Mathnawi, Tears of the Heart” being selection of chapters from Mathnawi in order to benefit from Rumi’s great inheritance of spirituality. Thanks Allah, this work attracted the attention of Muslims and their praise. It proved that the solutions of Sufis are still very much effective in the modern world. Hence in order to benefit from the reviving breath of Rumi, we supplied with the readers another Jug of Water from the ocean of Rumi.
It should be once more emphasized that Rumi is not only important for a particular nation, he is a very important source of illumination for all the nations of the world. His books are the ocean of wisdom and Divine Realities. Rumi went through to the depths of man’s heart; he understood the reality of man and supplied us with remedies of continuous beauty.
It is very rare to find other works of Sufism like Mathnawi, which can so successfully explaining the spiritual truths, by using stories he made the difficult subject of spiritual life easily understandable to the seekers of gnosis.
Allah Almighty out of his grace gave us an opportunity to prepare this work, benefiting from his works and spiritual world. I claim no credit to myself in this work except the role of typist who typed it.
May Allah give success to this modest work and make it a continuous charity (al-Sadaqah al-Jariyah) for me and as well as for those who helped in its preparation. May Allah accept our sincere intentions and make it a window of light for those who seek for the truth and solve their spiritual problems. Amin!
Success comes only from Allah.
