ECHOES ALL
The conch gathers up the world
Inside its pearl palace
And the glistening green sea
Authors islands from memory
Where once there was water,
New continents intrude;
Places undefiled by adoration which unleash
Forests lush with grotesque beasts
Their bones will feed progress
As they melt into an alluvium
Drenched with many ponderous eons of rain;
Marvel or monstrosity, they end the same
Vanguard for a host of silent stars
Just as lifeless in their fate;
Giants who’ve been set no other business
Than to run down until finished
The worst disasters drained of their calamity,
Made as soft as murmurs;
Things in brute transit now briefly held
Inside the walls of an empty shell
