NOCTURNAL WORLDS
In the dream the window is open;
The wisp of a curtain
Curling in the airless breeze,
Graceful and serene
Like a dancer whose heart is full of
Music only she can hear
Woven cotton undulating
With the vitality of some deep sea
Angelic oddity
Though the silence should feel strange,
It seems to arise out of
Something ageless and wiser than
Any human contrivance
Outside lies
The edge of a jungle, waiting
As its trees coo and gurgle with
Sounds reminiscent of the
Untainted wild
But this is a place that
Doesn’t exist;
A sleeping illusion
The nebulae of occulted visions
Filtered through
Mists and mirages;
If anything is alive here it’s
You, some mirrored version of yourself
Trapped within,
Distorted by your own secrets
What is it in you then
That appears now,
Swaying slowly in the crush of foliage
With the pillared neck
And vast watchful stare of a
Shadowy giraffe?
