This office romance book finds Deanworking himself to death, it was all he knew. Having left home at 16, he depended on no one for anything. He lived one day at a time and was quite content with maintaining his solitary existence until she walked into his life. He didn’t plan on getting involved, a bit of s** here and there and he would have been fine, but she was not that kind of woman, she was the type you take home to your parents, the kind you want to get pregnant in the first shot. She was loving, caring, witty, intelligent, independent and sexy as hell.
But... Dean wasn’t ready for her and he knew from the moment they kissed; his heart would never be the same again.
Excerpt:
Caden knew where Fern lived, he passed her many evenings on her front porch sitting with her parents, he would honk his horn and keep driving. Somehow he always managed to keep his feelings from showing but he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep it up forever. One night they had a celebration when they landed one of the biggest contracts to date with one of their staunch clients and Fern was the reason. She had come up with a marketing program in less than a week and when she presented it to the CMA team as well as the CEO of Black Passion – Marcus Waithe and his best friend and business partner Caleb got up walked over to her and kissed her cheek. He placed an envelope into the palm of her hand and handed the contract already signed to Caden. No one spoke for a few minutes, Fern was shocked, Caden was livid, and the others were waiting for the final answer on the promotion.
“Caden, I expect that Fern will be in charge of this campaign from start to finish?” Marcus asked.
“Yes, she will Sir, I am confident she will do as she always does.”
“Good. I am off to have dinner with Sam, she came down with me this trip, she was very excited about what Fern would come up with. Nothing like a good woman to support you. Fern, you will get to meet Sam, I know the two of you will love each other.”
“I agree sir.”
Caden heard the hint in the CEO’s words quite clearly. He was looking directly at Fern when he said it.
“Caden, can I speak with you for a minute before I go meet Sam?”
“Sure Marcus, my office is right through that door, I will be there in a second.”
Caden heard Fern’s soft voice whisper through the congratulations.
“Boss, you are giving me this contract?”
“Yes, I am, you have proven to be an asset, time to spread your wings, be here at 7 in the morning if you can, if you can’t let me know now so I can reschedule for a later time in the day. What’s in the envelope?” Caden asked hoping it was a bonus cheque and not an invitation out on a date. He would go nuts.
“No, I will make it, I will just take Tanaea to the nursery a bit earlier.” She opened the envelope and sure enough it was a cheque for US$2000. Caden breathed a sigh of relief.
“Now that is what you call a bonus. Great, you can take the rest of the day off after the meeting, you deserve it. I am going to meet with Marcus in a minute. Come with us, we are going to the bar after work on the corner to celebrate, I will take you home after.”
“I would love to but …….”
“Obligations at home?”
“Well, that and the fact that I don’t drink.”
“Tell you what, you can I can celebrate now, and I will go back with the others later.”
“Sounds wonderful.”
“Let’s go. OH wait, Marcus is waiting on me, give me a few minutes, then we can head out.”
Caden close the door to his office. Marcus turned away from the lovely view of the Bridgetown Harbour.
“Marcus, does Fern know you are in love with her?”
“No, and she doesn’t need that pressure on her right now. The staff think she sleeps with me to get the high-profile projects such as yours. She would quit and break my heart.”
“It’s written all over your face, clear as day, Caleb wanted to ask her out just to tease you but I told him I don’t need to be parting a fight today.”
“Geeze, does everyone know?”
